Reno isn’t just where Tim Ross lives — it’s home. Tim grew up in Reno, attended our local elementary and middle schools, graduated from Reno High School, and went on to earn his degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. His life is a story of homegrown service, dedication, and a deep love for this community.
After college, Tim worked as a Substitute Teacher before becoming a local business owner. He knows firsthand what it takes to build, manage, and sustain a business in Reno. Tim later devoted his professional life to public safety, retiring as a Sergeant with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office after years of serving our community.
A trusted and proven leader, Tim served eleven years on the Executive Board of the Washoe County Sheriff Deputies Association, most of that time as President. He later led the Supervisory Deputies Association. During this time, Tim also served on the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) Board. He spent 7.5 years on the Board that included 4 years as Board Chair. Additionally, Tim participated in numerous sessions at the Nevada Legislature as a registered lobbyist.
A skilled negotiator and problem solver, Tim has led contract negotiations since 2009. He believes success comes from listening, finding common ground, and doing the hard work necessary to reach solutions. He has settled disputes at the table — and when needed, stood firm through mediation and arbitration to protect those he represents.
As a registered Republican for 40 years, Tim believes Reno works best when leaders set egos aside and focus on results — not division. He remembers when people could disagree and still work together for the betterment of the community.
Tim is running for Mayor because he loves Reno. He believes it’s time to get back to the city’s core mission: keep Reno safe, keep Reno clean, and make Reno financially sound. That means cutting financial fat, covering the basics, coordinating services regionally to reduce duplication, and ensuring accountability in everything from public works to public safety.
Reno deserves steady leadership, real-world experience, and someone who puts the community first. Tim Ross is ready to serve — and ready to get things done.
